Spoiler Alert
I was given a very tired and beat-up ‘67 Margay New Breed frame as a sort of ‘thank you’/finder’s fee after tipping off a friend to the existence and whereabouts of an early BUG kart with a super rare European 250cc König water-cooled outboard motor strapped on. Crazy kart for a crazy guy. . . He was tickled.
Anyhow, this New Breed then wound up languishing for another two years off in a corner of my Grandma’s basement while I worked on other projects and ruminated over what I might eventually like to do with it.
Spoiler Alert: The kart is not yet done, but I’m pretty excited by what I’ve determined I’m going to do thematically. I chose Prismatic Powders “Cheater Blue” over a “Heavy Silver” base coat. I had to chop off the original front bumper rail, straighten it, sand it, polish it, then send it out for re-chroming prior to welding it back on so I could have the rest of the frame powder coated. I also took all of the hardware and sent it off for yellow matte-cadmium over-plating, which should be really unique. Even had a fresh axel turned for it and cadmium plated that as well. It all just came back and looks friggin’ great.
I took some time over Christmas/New Year’s break to start digging in on assembly, despite taking 5 days to travel down to Florida to compete in the Enduro races at Daytona Speedway (hit 109 mph in my first enduro event, which was cool). The guys running Twins hit speeds up to 168 mph. That’s an inch off the ground, no harness, and no safety gear excepting leathers and a Helmut. Nuts, but I’ll post some of that separately. . .
Anyhow, I normally don’t like to show work-in-progress stuff that’s still this far out from being finished, but WTF. I figured I’d let a few teaser photos slip. Just. This. Once.
